"And there is the reason why," finishing her thought.
"I don't play cards," She said grabbing the card out of his hand, just as the jet engines roared to life.

When it became clear that the mutant condition was not a random freak accident of nature and in fact was a growing society, New York City corded off a section of the more downtrodded part of the city and called it "Mutant Town". Officially it was entended to be where mutants could find a home and not have to hide the fact that they were homo superior, even the mayor and most of the city council made a point to have photo ops done in Mutant Town to "show support" for the social experiment. Here mutants would make up that part of the police and fire department as serve in the modest hospital errected for their health care needs. On paper it was a bold step towards genetic brotherhood. In truth it was nothing more then a slum. A place designed to keep mutants seperated from flatscan humanity without sparking riots.
The gathering today at Empire State University, whose campus ironicly made up part of the Mutant Town/Manhatten border, was supposed to be a peaceful gathering of human students and Mutant Town residents. What the team saw as the X-Jet soared overhead before hovering down to a soft touchdown was anything but peaceful.
Storm swooped over and quickly briefed them as best she could. No one is sure how this mess started but it was clear that mutants were fighting antimutant protesters who just happened to somehow be armed with more then just guns, knives, and bricks.
"Are they wearing parts of Mark I Guardsman armors?" Cerebro asked in disbelief
"I am afraid they are," Storm confirmed, "And some of the armor still has its weapons systems intacted!" As if to punctiate her statement, one half armored human fired some sort of energy weapon that brought down a flying mutant.
"Great..." Cerebro rolled his eyes, "As if this wasn't bad enough. Fine, Gambit, take Stature, Forge and are little Rogue and try and push the mutants away from the flatscans. They dont appear to be any Alpha-level power sets so they shouldn't put up too much of a fight. Wolverine, you, Storm and Beast are with me, main priority is to disarm those armored hate mongers."
Wolverine smiled as he popped the claws on his right hand, "Do I get to crave up the hams in those tin cans?"
"Negative," Cerebro answered firmly, "Disarm and take down for XSE arrest. Anyone who is in there rioting that isn't in armor gets the life scared out of 'em."
Without waiting for the rest of his team or to watch Gambit and his team take off, Cerebro used his telekinesis to take to the air and fly straight into a trio of armored humans. They looked like teenagers wearing really bad Halloween costumes so they had an excuse to go trick or treating. Only downside was the tricks they were packing were a lot more harmful then rotten eggs.
"Why don't you fellas pack up and go home," he said trying to push them telepathicly.
One particually brutishly built young man wearing the Guardsmen helmet, chest plate and one shoulder/arm casing, raised his armored hand so it's repulser canon was directly in Cerebro's face, "Mutie, dont know we got us some psi-jammers in these helmets!" he laughed, "Hey mutie, why don't we turn you into paste instead."
The repulser canon began to whine as it built up to fire.

Gambit looked at Anna and said. "Try not to get killed." as he rushed to help the fight. He nailed the teenager with his blast staff and watched him sail across the street as he looked over at Cerebro and winked.
Wolverine, however, was beating down at least four of them at one time. He lost his cool and extracted his claws and sliced through one of the kid's arm plate and arm in all. The others ran in horror as the young kid lay on the gound in a puddle of his own blood and looking up at Wolverine. He stood back, lit a cigar and said in a half grin, "You're under arrest."

"I'll try," Ann replied. But Gambit was already off the jet. Slipping his playing card into her pocket, she found herself being the last off the plane.
"Thanks for staying with me," Ann said as her feet touch the grass. Just in time to see Gambit in action.
In the confusion no one seemed to notice her, at first. Even Gambit had more important things to do then to babysit the rookie.
As she came to a small outside lounge area of the college, she noticed a teenage boy with a large wooden spike coming out of his hand. The tip was touching the neck of a very terrified human protester.
"Hey!" She shouted. "You don't want to do that. I mean the mess alone."
"Shut up." The teen replied. "You one of them? The haters."
"No mutant. Just like you. Now let him go. If you kill him. It would make you no better off then them." Moving closer ever so slowly. Anna never felt more alone in her life. "Please just let him go."
"No he must be made an example to the haters. That mutants..."
"Are what they were afraid of in the first place. Stoping violence with violence never works. Now let him go."
"What can you do to me?"
"Have you ever heard of those mutants on tv that are so powerful they give them the number five as a rating. Well am not even a one. More of a point seventy-five. But I do know that killing him will only make things worse.
"No! They will all pay soon. All of them!
Standing just next to him now. She slowly reached for the teens arm just as a drop of red fell from the protesters neck.
Grabbing his arm, horror crossed her face. As she watched the teen not but an hour ago place a bomb in the school's library.
"Oh my god," She whispered.
The teen released his grip and ran. So did the protester. Leaving her with the terrifying information.
Looking around she was not close to anyone. Fear grow inside. Hoping the professor was as powerful as he calmed. She let the fear grow. So her would pick it up like a pager going off.
"A bomb as been set in the Library. It will go off in 30 minutes!" She thought. Hoping he would hear.
Running she had to find Gambit, and the others.

Cyclops was known as a lecturer. He would dress down a teammate for battlefield actions after the fight. Cerebro was a multi-tasker, he was chewing Wolverine out even as he was landing savage kicks and punches on several armored rioters.
"Damn it, Logan!" he said landing a haymaker to an unprotected jaw, "I told you disarm only!"
"I did," Wolverine replied slicing another rioters armored chest plate to steel ribbons.
"You damn well known I didnt mean it literally!"
Rogue's fearful thoughts about the bomb that the mutant teen had planted in the library cut off any further comments he had for the elder X-Man. "We have a problem,"
"Anything we can help with, Bossman?" a voice drawled from above. Looking up Cerebro saw the siblings Cannonball and Husk flying to the scene.
"Oh yeah," grinned the leader, "Help Storm and Wolverine deal with the rioters. Beast and I need to see a librarian about a bomb."
Knowing that the two Appalachian mutants would be more then useful against the armored humans, Cerebro took off running with Beast in tow. In short order he found Rogue outside the library. "And you thought you wouldnt be much help." he teased once they close to her.

Seeing Anna run they boy off and then stading by the library and seeing Cerebro and Beast head there in a trot, Gambit headed there too to help knocking the swayed mutants out of his way as he went.
"See, I leave you alone for five seconds and see what you do?" He said teasingly. "What's going on here cher? Somone not return dey book on time?" He asked.

"Five Seconds!" She yelled. "You took off. I was left alone to deal with a teen aged bomber!"
Walking into the Library without saying another word. She pointed to the book return. "It's in there."
Just then a loud nose came from outside as the riots counted. She knew what it would take to end this. She had a plain. "I've got this professor."
Grabbing Gambits trench coat she commanded,"Come on. This time your with me." Pull him out the door.

Cerebro was right behind Rogue and Gambit trying his best to hide the smirk at how the charming cajin seems to have meet his match when he spotted the pack of mutant teens standing between the bomb and themselves.
A rather large young man who looked to be made up of a cross between crude oil and jello was appearently the leader of this motly crew of equally nasty looking boys, "Thats as far as you race traitors go! The flatscans come here to learn, well we're gonna teach 'em a lesson they'll never forget."
"Amazing, I would've put money on him being the stupid one, that was actually cute." Cerebro quipped, then telekineticly snagged a large trash can and slammed it down over the slimey one's head, "Rogue, you and Beast find and disarm the bomb! Gambit, time to take out the garbage!"
With a TK heave, Cerebro bowled the trashcan into the gang member that looked like he was part doberman. At the last second he jumped out of the way and snarled at Cerebro, "You may take down Gorgeous George like that but Hairbag wont go do without a fight!" With that Hairbag charged only to get knocked out by a TK propelled haymaker.
"Hairbag? Gorgeous George?" Cerebro asked sighing, "It's true all the good names are taken." He turned towards the shortest member of the group, "What do they call you? Stumpy?"
"Nope," was the drawled response, "They call me Slab. As in gonna put you on one."
Without warning Slab grew so large that he barely fit inside the library building. Cerebro muttered, "Ah, hell."

"Rogue, you and Beast find and disarm the bomb! " Anna heard the professor's voice in her head just as they reach outside.
"A little busy here. The fur ball can handle the bomb." she thought.
The fighting in the courtyard grow more intense as the tension in the air raised.
Anna felt her hair being pulling down, as a mutant grabbed her from behind. Knocking her to the ground. Just as more attacked Gambit.

Slab's semiconscious body sailed over Rogue and Gambit's heads and slammed into half the gathered mob, scattering them like bowling pins. Next thing everyone saw was a very angry Cerebro floating in the air, his telekinetic energies very visible and rolling off him in waves. "You were in the boy's head, Rogue. You know where the bomb is and would be helpful to Beast in disarming it, and if what you showed me from his memories is true we do not have the time to play with these fools and look for the bomb. Now GO!"
Cerebro turn and faced the remaining mob, "Anyone else feeling particularly brave right at this moment to take on the mutant?"
A good number of the mob disappear as they discreetly made an exit.

The blue fur covered form of Henry McCoy made his way through the few stragglers of the mob so he was standing (in his case on knuckles and feet) beside Rogue, "He is most correct young lady. I understand you are new to all of this physical conflict but that bomb can and will endanger more lives then just these few riotous members of the species. I know Cerebro's mannerisms are bourish on the battlefield, so I will add to his request what he forgot. Please lead the way."

Anna lead the blue beast back into the library and pointed to the book return box.
"It's in there." She said.

Anna knelt down besides the small bomb. Closing her eyes she played back what she had saw when she touched the boy. Keeping her eyes closed as she pulled a red wire then a blue one. Causing the clock upon it to go dark. "I hope that works." She said as she opened her eyes.
